Hello everyone, today I am here to share my experiences with you guys about the hottest topic of air fryers, that is “Can You Put Aluminum Foil In an Air Fryer or not”.
Well it’s really an important matter that should be known by every air fryer user.
Use of air fryers is now increasing massively because of their versatility and user friendly options. But like most other kitchen appliances it also raises some questions in the users mind specially the new users. So let’s discuss it through my experience.
Before starting the discussion let’s remember our knowledge about what aluminium foil is. It’s a 0.2m thick shiny sheet of aluminum metal made by rolling large slabs of aluminum. It’s a very common cooking product used for many purposes such as wrapping food, to cover baking surfaces or keeping food safe, etc.
As some kitchen appliances have restrictions on using aluminium foil and there are also some accidental fire incidents reported with aluminium foil, people are concerned over putting aluminium foil into an air fryer and for all the good reasons. We are going to discuss whether we can put aluminum foil in an air fryer or not.
Can you put Aluminum Foil in Air Fryers? Is it safe?
The answer is Yes with a capital Y but precautions should be taken and instruction must be followed. Air fryers operate heats similar to conventional ovens so it is safe to use it as long as the frying foods are not highly acidic.
Foods like chicken or fish can easily be wrapped with aluminum foil before putting into your air fryer.
When to use Aluminum Foil in an Air Fryer?
It can be considered as an important question when and why aluminium foil should be used. Since it is a commonly used item, it can be used for different purposes as your recipe demands.
As for air fryers they can be used to prevent the juice produced from the food to come out and keep the juiciness intact.
Grease would drip into the foil and cleaning after cooking would be easy.
When you are baking cake or cooking any delicate vegetables you can use foil paper to protect them from ruining from high heat.
Safety
Air fryers don’t produce extreme heat to melt the foil, so you don’t need to worry about that. But some things need to be considered and rules must be followed before putting aluminum foil in air fryers, to avoid damaging foods. To get proper ideas follow along because a 5-minute read won’t hurt that much, but a wrongly used machine can do.
As air fryers work by circulating the hot air so don’t cover the basket entirely. You must ensure that the foil is not hindering the air circulation otherwise if the air can’t circulate freely, it would not cook the food properly.
Don’t use empty aluminum foil without food on top of it. without anything to weigh down the paper, it could be sucked entirely into the heating unit of the air fryer and would definitely cause a fire.
Must try to avoid using aluminum foil while cooking acidic foods like fruits, fruit juice, tomatoes, tomato sauce, or foods made with vinegar, etc. Acid from these foods can combine with the heat of the air fryers and finally they could decompose the foil. And then this decomposed foil will leave small black aluminum particles in your food that would also give you a salty or metallic taste in the foods.
Some Dishes that Require Aluminum foil to Cook:
Corn on the cob
Corn on the cob is a famous side dish made of freshly picked maize. As I am a very big fan of this dish I used to make it in an oven or instant pot. So I was very astonished when I first found how easy it is to cook corn on the cob in an air fryer.
Put the corn in the aluminum foil, use a spoon of butter in the center of the corn and wrap it tightly with the foil. Finally, place it into the basket. And then in just 15 minutes, you will get juicy and tender kernels. Once you try it I think you would never want to cook corn in any other way!
Air Fryer Hobo dinner foil packets
It is an all-in-one recipe that includes beef, potatoes, mushrooms, etc which is full of juicy flavors. You can make it in your home as well as when you are out of home or in a campaign. All you need is a portable air fryer.
You have to wrap the indigents with aluminum foil and have to cook them in the hot air for about 45 minutes. If you have a large air fryer you can easily put 4 wrapped hobo in it. It’s also very easy to clean up.
What food should you cook in the air fryer?
The reason why the popularity of air fryers is increasing day by day is that it gives healthy and delicious food with less oil and less time. Though it gives the limitless possibility of cooking food, we should not toss each and every food into it!
You should avoid some specific food or it will cause a massive mess. For instance, stop putting a whole chicken or roast into it because the capability of the air fryer basket is more similar to an oven so a whole chicken must not fit into it. Because of overcrowding the basket the chicken will end up dried out. Instead of placing the whole roast, you may place a few pieces at a time.
Rice that needs to be submerged into a lot of liquid can’t be cooked in an air fryer.
Whatever without some specific foods air fryers usually gives a huge possibility of cooking. Crispy air fryer baked potatoes, air fryer hobo foil packet, crispy bacon, all kinds of chicken, beef steak, etc can be easily cooked in air fryers.
So if you are craving any deep fried foods, an air fryer will give you a very healthy and efficient way of cooking your food and enjoying it as you wish.
Can I use baking paper or tin foil in my Philips Airfryer?
As I am not using a Philips air fryer I am giving the answer to this question based on google searches and customer reviews.
According to my research, I came to a decision that you can’t use paper or tin foil in your Philips Airfryer for some reasons like if you put the foil in the bottom of the basket where the grease or food particles have collected the airflow inside the basket would result in unevenly cooked food.
Is it dangerous to use aluminum foil in an air fryer?
As I explained already, as long as you followed the manual or used some tips there would be no worries about using aluminum foil in air fryers.
Can You Cook High Acidic Food with Foil in an Air Fryer?
Plenty of food can be cooked in air fryers but the foods that contain high acid should be ignored to avoid massive mess.
When the high acid and air fryer heat comes into contact it causes the foil to peel off and that adds a metallic taste to the food. Therefore I recommend not use foil while cooking high acidic food like fruits, sauce, tomatoes, etc.
